THE WIND POUNDS

The wind pounds
the branches and leaves

which, in turn
rattle the glass; shake the house

which, in turn
invokes feline leap; a startled yelp

which, in turn
rouses slumbering boy;
alone, in half the bed

which, in turn
makes him yearn
for the rise—

—and fall
of your chest.
